James Dewitt Yancey better known as J Dilla, was a record producer and rapper who surfaced in the 90’s underground hip hop scene in Detroit, Michigan. According to his obituary he was one of the music industry’s most influential hip-hop artists. He was known to have worked with big-name artists including A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, MF DOOM, Poe, The Roots, The Pharcyde and Common.
